How to Install Mods

How to Set up your pc for Mods:

Note: CC is downloaded the same way, however, this walkthrough focuses on the necessary actions for Mods only.

First, locate your mods folder. On both Mac and PC, you can find it in: Documents > Electronic Arts > Sims 4 > Mods.

Note: You need to run the game at least once for these files to appear. If you do not see a Mods folder, run your game and it will generate the necessary files.

This tutorial assumes you have the default Sims 4 folder setup. If you are using an external hard drive, read here - mac | windows.

Steps to download and install:

    1. Once you've located the folder, find a mod you want to download - Where to Find Mods

    2. Download the mod you want. For me, it downloads to my 'Downloads' folder, but you can pick where you want it to download.

    3. Mods can be downloaded in a few different formats, however, we only want the .package and .ts4script files in our mods folder. Typically, tuning mods come in .package and script mods come in .ts4script. Some mods might have both, and you need to keep those together. Read the modders installation instructions, as some mods come with additional add-ons and files!

      1. If the download comes in a Zip, Rar or 7zip file (example: HairSet.Zip, HairSet.rar, HairSet.7zip), you will need to extract them (basically open the compressed folders up so we can pull out the packages).

      2. Both Mac and PC have built-in extractors for Zip downloads. If the download ends in Zip, just double click on the folder and it will open up.

      3. For Rar or 7zip files, you will need to download an extra tool.

        1. For Mac, I recommend the 'Unarchiver', which is free in the app store.

        2. For Windows, you can use WinRAR or 7ZIP, both of which are free (even if they say they're not).

      4. Once we have the .package and .ts4script files only, we can add them to the mods folder.

    4. Drag all the necessary files and put it in your mods folder: Documents > Electronic Arts > Sims 4 > Mods.

    5. Open up your game and go into the game options/settings.

    6. Under the 'Other' tab, tick off 'Enable Custom Content and Mods'. You also need to enable the 'Script Mods Allowed' option.

    7. Click 'Apply Changes' and restart your game.

8. When you open up your game again, you will see a popup with a list of all the custom content and mods your game found in the mods folder. If you see this message, you have been successful. However, let's confirm another way.

9. Create a new game or open up your existing game. Depending on the mod you installed, try something that would test the functionality or expected outcome. For example, if you installed MCCC, you can go to the computer and see the MCCC options appear.

Happy Simming!
